India is a land of festivals thanks to deep rooted cultures which knit the diverse country together. I got the opportunity to visit India three times twice Varanasi and once the Vittal Birdev annual Yatra festival or Haldi festival with Photowalk Dubai. The information on this festival is so scarce that even Wikipedia fails to entertain the search. For photographers it is a gold mine waiting to be found. Haldi Festival is celebrated in Pattan Kodoli village in Kolhapur district of Maharashtra, which is attended by thousands of devotees coming from Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra. The festival is celebrated to offer prayers to the community deity of the shepherds, Shri Vittal Birdev, an incarnation of Lord Shiva. They believe that the festival and rituals brings good fortune, harvest and rain, thereby ensuring well being.
